J.A. Happ Earns 16th Win as Blue Jays Rout Rays
If it feels like a couple of months have passed since J.A. Happ lost a game, well, guess what.
Happ on Wednesday night was sharp yet again for the Blue Jays, throwing shutout ball through six innings and becoming the first 16-game winner in the majors this season as the Jays trounced the Tampa Bay Rays 7-0 at the Rogers Centre.
Toronto took a half game lead over the Baltimore Orioles for first place in the American League East (Orioles played last Wednesday) and took two of three against the Rays. The Jays have an off-day on Thursday before Francisco Liriano opens a three-game set versus visiting Houston on Friday night.
In front of a crowd of 45,501, Happ (16-3) won his 10th decision in a row and lowered his earned-run average to 2.96. The 33-year-old lefty hasn’t suffered a loss since June 6 at Detroit.
