Senators Forward Matt Puempel Shooting For full-time NHL Gig

WINDSOR — At the Canadian Tire Centre, whenever Matt Puempel scores a goal for the Ottawa Senators, they play Elvis Costello’s Pump It Up over the arena sound system.
Perhaps considering how his 2015-16 campaign went, something by Yo-Yo Ma might be more appropriate.
Puempel was up and down like the legendary product of Duncan Toys, as if the Senators had attached a string to the back of Puempel’s No. 26 jersey.
The Essex native was assigned to Binghamton of the AHL out of training camp, and then recalled to Ottawa on Oct. 28. Returned to the minors Nov. 22, Puempel was back with the NHL Sens exactly two months later on Jan. 22.
This stay in the show lasted only three games and on Feb. 2, he was back in Binghamton. But after a Feb. 29 recall to the NHL, Puempel finished out the season in Ottawa, and he’s hoping that is a sign of coming attractions.
