Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill Only Sprained Knee Ligaments

Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins received unexpectedly great news on Monday.
Doctors determined that the quarterback did not tear either the ACL or MCL in his left knee, as feared. Instead, Tannehill only sprained those ligaments.
The injury does not even require surgery, Gase said.
“Better than we thought yesterday,” Dolphins head coach Adam Gase understated at his Monday news conference. “We’ll know more as the week goes on.”
Can Tannehill play again this season?
“I don’t know,” Gase said. “I have to find the timetable. We just have to go through all the details of everything. We’re just making sure we’re taking all the right steps.”
Matt Moore, who was absent from team facilities Monday to attend the birth of a child, will quarterback the Dolphins on Saturday night at the New York Jets.
STAFFORD UPDATE
Detroit head coach Jim Caldwell refused to discuss the particulars of QB Matt Stafford’s injury to the middle finger on his throwing hand, suffered in Sunday’s defeat of Chicago. But Caldwell did say this:
“He’s going to be able to play in the next game. He’ll be able to practise and those kinds of things. He feels that obviously he can get it done, and also the doctors do as well. Not going to talk to you about the nature of it, what happened and all the rumours and false reports, and all those kinds of things.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday night that Stafford suffered a joint dislocation and torn ligaments to the finger.
RODGERS UPDATE
Based on “preliminary findings,” the calf injury to Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers “doesn’t seem as bad as the one from two years ago,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.
REX UPDATE
Buffalo head coach Rex Ryan was not fired Monday. He told both a news conference and local radio station WGR that he met, as usual on a Monday, with Bills co-owner Terry Pegula.
“I’m not going to think one minute about something that may or may not happen,” Ryan said. “I know one thing: we’re playing the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, and we obviously have to play better than we did this past week.”
Also, Ryan said QB Tyrod Taylor will start against the visiting Browns. “In my opinion, he gives us the best chance to win,” Ryan said.
Reports on Sunday said Ryan could be fired as early as Monday, and that Taylor’s days as Bills starter might be over.
