The beautiful city of Rajkot was founded by Thakur Saheb Vibhaji Ajoji Jadeja in the year 1612. Gandhiji too spent his childhood years in this city during the time when his father was a Diwan for the Nawab of Saurashtra. Mumbai is a crowded city with the hustle and bustle going on continuously. Aji Dam

The dam is built over the River Aji which is one of the most important rivers of the Saurashtra region. The lifeline of Rajkot, Aji River separates the city into two parts. The Municipal Corporation of Rajkot has maintained a garden here which is a major attraction among the tourists. The garden is located downstream looks beautiful with the trees and flowers. Away from the crowd of the city, this place stands on the top to hang out with friends.

Khambhalia

The Buddhist caves of Khambhalia are situated near the Gondal city and are the oldest caves in Rajkot. The statues of Bodhisattva Padmapani and Vajrapani are on the right and left the side of the architectural monument. The Vajrapani structure is almost same as the one in Ellora Caves. The chaityagriha comprises of a total of three caves,and it is believed that the Buddhist monks used to take shelter in these caves during the winters. The inscriptions and other structures carved out of stone are mesmerising. The underground routes in the caves connect to the caves in Junagadh. A prominent archaeologist, Sh. PP Pandya made the discovery of the caves in the year 1958,and it is believed to be here since the 4th century.

Pradhyuman Park

Situated on the outskirts of the Rajkot city, Pradhyuman Park is surrounded by two lakes namely Randarda Lake and Lalpari Lake. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation maintains the park and the zoo. Spread over 135 acres, the zoo is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The beautiful surroundings of the area make it the best place for animals to live. The zoo authorities provide small vehicles which are battery operated to roam around in the zoo. A bicycle can also be hired to explore the area on your own. The two lakes around the zoo can also be visited. The place is gaining popularity and is an excellent work of wildlife conservation.

Randarda Lake

Gujarat is definitely a paradise for all the bird watchers. The Randarda Lake is located outside the Rajkot city and is home to numerous migratory and indigenous birds. Over 160 species of birds can be spotted here out of which 15 are the species of duck. Around 60 different species of birds, every year migrate here. The lake has been maintained by the combined efforts of the forest department and Rajkot Municipal Corporation. The watchtower at the lake gives a bird’s eye view of the place. To get the best views, it is suggested to go during the sunrise or the sunset.

Lalpari Lake

Lalpari Lake is a popular picnic spot near the Pradhyuman Park. The natural spot is again a birds’ paradise. Some rare migratory birds come here during the season. Some of them include rosy pastor, purple moorhen, black-tailed godwit and the spoonbill. On a hilltop near the lake is a temple which offers panoramic views of the city.
