TFC ready for struggling D.C. United
Ben Olsen, the eternal optimist and purveyor of positive thinking, didn’t let a troublesome five-game losing streak rattle his belief.
D.C. United’s coach of eight years kept the faith two weeks ago in the aftermath of a stinging 3-1 loss to the Houston Dynamo.
“I know you guys don’t believe it when I say it, but I do have a lot of belief in this group,” Olsen told MLSsoccer.com. “And I’ve got my group together. But we’ve got to start soon.”
Start winning, one can assume. Then came another crushing blow when United suffered a 4-0 dismantling in Minnesota.
It wasn’t just embarrassing. It was a signal that the season is likely over for United. The Black and Red are 5-14-3 (18 points), with the worst goal-difference (-24) in the league.
Now they’ll follow up a winless July on Saturday with a meeting with Toronto FC at RFK Stadium — a battle of the best and worst MLS has to offer.
