Tous les tunnels et passages inférieurs de Montréal seront éclairés aux DEL d’ici 2021

L’ensemble des 143 passages inférieurs et des tunnels de la métropole passeront à l’éclairage aux diodes électroluminescentes (DEL) d’ici 2021, a annoncé la Ville mercredi. Montréal a ainsi ratifié deux contrats pour la fourniture et l’installation totalisant près de 5,5 M$.

Par cette décision, l’administration Plante vise «une réduction de sa consommation électrique» tout en engendrant «des économies substantielles», lit-on dans un document du comité exécutif, qui a signé les deux ententes avec Schréder Inc et Bruneau Électrique mercredi.

«Avec l’utilisation des ces luminaires DEL, les usagers pourront bénéficier d’une meilleure visibilité dans les passages inférieurs et ainsi, la Ville augmente la sécurité des déplacements sur son réseau», particulièrement la nuit, ajoute-t-on.

L’administration municipale estime qu’elle baissera sa consommation énergétique «de plus de 50%» et la valeur de ses coûts d’entretien de 55% avec ces nouvelles façons de faire qui rejoignent certains objectifs du plan d’action Vision Zéro de la Ville. Celui-ci a pour but de réduire au maximum les décès et les blessures graves dans les rues de Montréal.

«Les femmes qui circulent seules, et qui nous ont souvent fait part de leurs craintes, devraient se sentir plus en sécurité et en confiance grâce à ces améliorations», a insisté le responsable de l’urbanisme et de la mobilité, Éric Alan Caldwell, dans un communiqué mercredi.

«La lumière sera plus adéquate, ce qui permettra aux usagères et usagers qui se partagent la route de mieux se voir», a-t-il illustré.

D’ici 2021, quelque 130 000 luminaire «souvent vulnérables» auront été remplacés «au bénéfice de la visibilité des usagers», promet la Ville de Montréal.
