Toronto Maple Leafs’ Nazem Kadri on Alexei Emelin cross-check: ‘We’ll Remember’
We’re not sure if the Maple Leafs will forgive Alexei Emelin.
They certainly won’t forget.
With the clock clicking down on a 2-1 Montreal Canadiens win Saturday night, Emelin cross-checked the Leafs’ James van Riemsdyk from behind, causing a chaotic scrum at the final horn.
It was the second dangerous check in the game, an earlier one featuring Matt Martin on the Habs’ Nathan Beaulieu.
Emelin and Martin reportedly will escape any fines or supplementary discipline, but that certainly won’t temper the bad blood.
“We’ll remember,” Leafs forward Nazem Kadri said.
Added van Riemsdyk: “I’m not sure exactly how much time was on the clock but I just got kind of pushed from behind into the end-wall. No need for that but I know we were battling at the end there trying to get a goal and they’re trying to keep one out. Those sorts of things happen.”
Meanwhile, a peek at the American Hockey League’s transactions list Sunday indicated that the Leafs recalled forward Josh Leivo, who had been on a five-game conditioning stint with the Marlies.
