Stu Cowan: Canadiens’ Brendan Gallagher gives glimpse of off-ice life
You know you’re in a bachelor pad when the dining table is actually a poker table. When it’s Brendan Gallagher’s pad, the poker table is red with a CH logo in the middle.
Gallagher recently let Canadiens fans get a look inside his condo in Montreal’s Old Port with a Chez Brendan video on the team’s website. It’s a very cool place any bachelor would love to live in.
Gallagher, 25, said he would like to get married and start a family, but he’s very comfortable in the condo he has owned for the last three years.
“Right now, I’m pretty happy with what I’m doing,” Gallagher said after practice Tuesday in Brossard. “You work all your life for one thing and I’m just trying to enjoy this … and take advantage of it the most I can.”
Gallagher lived with former teammate Josh Gorges and his wife on the South Shore, near the Canadiens’ Brossard practice facility, during his first two seasons in the NHL, starting in 2012-13.
“It really simplified things for me,” Gallagher said. “All I had to worry about was hockey. Being a young kid and playing for the Montreal Canadiens, you can sometimes be overwhelmed. For them to take me in and for me to only have to worry about one little detail (hockey) … Maggie (Gorges’s wife) took care of everything else. I won’t give Josh any credit … Maggie did everything around the house. But the two of them are really big for me in my career.”
Gorges was traded to the Buffalo Sabres after the 2013-14 season and Gallagher rented a place in the Old Port the next year before purchasing the condo.
“It’s a cool area to be,” Gallagher said about the Old Port. “It’s got a lot of history and, at the same time, there’s a lot of restaurants for me since I’m a terrible cook.”
Gallagher has cool sports memorabilia in his condo, including signed NFL jerseys from Barry Sanders and Joe Montana, a signed Green Bay Packers helmet from Brett Favre, and framed Toronto Blue Jays jerseys from Troy Tulowitzki, Josh Donaldson and Marcus Stroman, who signed his: “To Gally. Sorry but I’m a Leafs fan!” Gallagher is a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan and has a collection of memorabilia from that team, including a jersey with Gallagher and No. 11 on the back.
